It's a quick, sure way, to have someone lose faith and trust in you. So therefore just as damaging if not more. It shows that you intention was to hide and deceive.

Lying by omission is a thing, yea, but withholding information isn't always lying. Like my professor doesn't need to know whether or not I got dick last night, if I don't tell them that I'm not lying to them.

It's in a similar category. Nobody should have to specifically ask to get an answer (lie or not). It's like if your SO cheated on you a year ago and then you find out and you ask why your SO didn't tell you and they're like "you didn't ask??" lol

Depends on the situation and the person’s intentions.
Eg, Withholding information from your SO because you’ve arranged a gift/surprise/positive event. vs Your SO slept at their friends house and withheld the information that they were with a person/ex whom they know you strongly dislike.
