Doctor won’t see me until 8 weeks?

I took a home pregnancy test last week and it was positive. I called my obgyn to set up an appointment and they asked when my last cycle was, I told them and they calculated I’m about 5/6 weeks right now so they won’t schedule me an appointment until I’m 8 weeks because that’s when they do their first check. I know that’s only a couple weeks from now but I thought they would check me right away just to confirm my exact time and make sure everything is ok. My first pregnancy I didn’t know until 4 months so I’m new to the whole beginning process

That’s completely normal. My doctors office is so busy that they can’t get me in until I’m 10weeks. They won’t do an ultrasound sound at 5/6 weeks anyways because there isn’t really anything to see, you can’t see a heartbeat until after 6 weeks anyways.

I am super worried (prob a little crazy from hormones and being fiercely protective of my little bean!) of hormones being too low or having an ectopic. 
My doctor won’t see me until 8w either, which I can understand the practical reasons for, but at the same time, I hear about women on these app forums that get a series of blood tests and U/S right away around 5-6w to check to see if everything is normal. 
And then of course there are the people who say the doctor finds low progesterone or something and so they start on a supplement. 
So, in my head, I’m really anxious about having to wait another 4 weeks, waiting and worrying that something could be wrong that could be treatable NOW (and not risking with delay)

My doctors office did this to me and I almost died because the baby was in the wrong place. It was a tubal pregnancy if they would have brought me in it four weeks they could have stopped it and made me take medication to shrink the baby into falling out without needing an actual procedure removing my tube. Woke up in a pool of blood. From that point on I decided if I ever get pregnant again I will go straight to the ER and make sure the babies in the right place.

That’s normal. It gives time to rule out a chemical pregnancy and for baby to show up on an ultrasound

I had an appointment at 6 weeks just to get all my info, then I had an ultrasound at 8 weeks. They’ll probably do everything at your 8 week appointment.

Part of me wishes I was ignorant of my pregnancy so I wasn’t sitting here worrying all day and night! I’m losing sleep and I’m so tired already!

i found out a few days ago. I am now 5 weeks and 1 day. I called obgyn yesterday and they have me waiting till Feb. 19 I told them I would like to confirm my pregnancy and they told me if the hpt was positive then it confirmed. I let it be and then called my primary doctor. She wants to see me next week to do a physical and confirm my pregnancy. Kinda wish my primary doctor was an OBGYN.

I'm in the U.K. And when I phoned my doctors they booked me in at around 5 weeks to tell me how far they thought I was and to ask if I wanted to keep the baby...and to book me in for midwife appointment don't get any check or scan until 12 weeks tho

I called my obgyn at 5 weeks and they said they wait till at least 9 weeks because they do an ultrasound at the first appointment and want to be able to hear the heartbeat. So my first appointment was at 9 weeks. I guess they assume everything is fine with the pregnancy unless you are having some bleeding or pain which I would assume if you were they would get you in sooner. Try not to stress!
