Is self publishing worth it (assuming you have something worthwhile to share)?

I’ve been thinking of making a collection of some of my work and using it as a way to share my work and get a little pocket money (also potential patreon reward for when I start that!) Is it worthwhile?

I'm a writer as well and I have an editor who is Affordable and honestly you should go both routes like I am you should try self-publishing and when you do that you should publish on GoDaddy . com then you should get yourself an editor and once your book is done your editor can submit your book to several different major publishers and you can get a publishing deal as long as one of those companies decides to work with you they may want to change the title of your book or even create your cover but that also enables you to possibly make hundreds of thousands of dollars and sell millions of copies honestly it's all about what you write about not everyone can be a number one bestseller you got to have number one bestseller writing I wish you the greatest of luck

From what I’ve read, I would much rather find a publisher who is well known. It gets very expensive trying to advertise your own work enough, and get it out into big stores, and just to the public in general.
I wouldn’t ever self publish. It’s too much money in the end. If my book wasn’t good enough to be published by a publisher, then I don’t see why I’d waste the money to get it out there and have it flip.

It depends on the reaction you want. If you just want your work out there then yes. Back when I used to self-publish I used smashwords. I wrote a book as a teen and I got so many emails from teens who read it. 
It was free and I made nothing from it. If it were today I would have definitely done more advertising. Now I’m a mom and wife and I don’t have the drive I used to. 
I love to write though. Been thinking about getting back into it but like I said, I don’t have the drive.

I self published a book I wrote my freshman year in college. It probably could’ve used an editor but I didn’t have the money to pay someone so I did the best I could myself. I didn’t make more than a couple hundred dollars but I never advertised it and didn’t have the time to. I have been working on another one for a few years and plan to do the same once I’m done. You may not make much but if you really want people to read it, it’s worth the feedback you’ll get 😊

I accidentally voted when I was scrolling and it voted no. I actually don't know, but it could be worth it. One of my favorite writers is self published, and managed to gain readers over the year and has now been picked up by a major publisher. I don't know how it happened for her though. Btw there is a reading/ writing specific room and you might get helpful responses.

I self published two books as a teen with the help of my dad. I didn't get much from them but they weren't that good aha. But if you know how to do it and have the time it's worth it. I had small amounts of money coming in randomly from sales for years afterwards. If you make something good and advertise it could be pretty decent.
