What do you use to increase supply?

My baby boy will be one week tomorrow. I’ve been nursing and pumping. I feel like I’m not getting a lot of milk when pumping. Maybe like 1 1/2 oz from each breast. Is there anything I can do to get more milk? He’s nursing a lot. Sometimes I feel like I’m just his pacifier. But when I try to pump I’m not getting much. Any suggestions?

Babies are more efficient than a breast pump, so they get more.
1.5 oz in each breast is plenty!!!
The best way to boost your supply is to feed your baby at the breast at this point. You baby will feed for longer because he’s boosting your supply, because he’s getting comfort and releasing special hormones from breastfeeding, because skin to skin is important for his development, etc.

Are you pumping after a feed or in place of one? That sounds like a pretty good amount to me either way if he’s only a week old! If he’s feeding a lot he’s building your supply and it’s totally normal! In the beginning I would only pump 1 1/2-2 oz. each time and now that she’s older and my supply is established I can pump 3-6 oz. at a time. I take Malunggay supplements, eat oatmeal everyday, and try to drink a lot of water to boost supply!

I swear by blue Gatorade! Lactation cookies and oatmeal are also great. Make sure you are staying super hydrated and eating enough!

You’ll have a steady supply in about one month. The best you can do is keep feeding / pumping. That’s way you can trick your body that it needs more milk.

If wet and dirty diaper count is normal you don’t have a supply issue. You’re telling your body to produce more than necessary and are risking an oversupply. Unless there’s a specific situational reason for pumping right now you don’t need to do it. 1/2-3oz total is an average amount for pumping. I’ve been breastfeeding for four years and never get even half an ounce. Pumping has zero to do with how much you make. Pacifiers were created to replace you. Your baby cannot use you as a pacifier. Look up the 4th Trimester. Nursing constantly is normal.
