When can baby calm themselves/stay calm?

Question

My baby is almost 3 weeks old, and is only calm while eating or sleeping, if not she's screaming (diaper is clean, clothes are fine, swaddled or not). Is this normal? When will she be able to stay calm even when not asleep?
Edit: we ebf, and don't have a swing or bouncer seat.

I read that babies learn to self soothe at around 4 months. Your babies so young she might just need a cuddle or maybe she has gas which is a common ‘crying for no reason’ reason! My daughter at that age; if she wasn’t feeding or sleeping she was crying so I feel you mama! She’s now 14 weeks and she hardly ever cries. This got better at about 9 weeks. It gets better promise!

Maybe she has reflux or colic? All my babies could lay or sit in a swing or bouncer seat, not being entertained, and be content and quiet for at least an hour at a time, right from birth

Be sure baby isn’t having any tummy issues! I remember when my beautiful step daughter was a NB she had THE WORST colic for MONTHS because her mother refused to change her formula. She would cry and cry unless she was asleep or eating. But when she was up we would spend what seemed like hours trying to sooth her poor belly! Finally she was put on the formula my MIL was telling BM (baby momma) to use and it miraculously stopped. Good luck girl!
