Any of you live in Tacoma?

So hubby and I are relocating to Kent WA area, I’ve heard that Tacoma is kind of like the ghetto, but how ghetto is it really? Any suggestions on places in the area for affordable rent?

Tacoma is really known for being ghetto, and for having the “aroma of Tacoma”. But if you live up near the university it’s not bad, or there are some more suburb like neighborhoods on the edge of the city that are a bit safer! Honestly I live in Kent and I would recommend looking there or in maple valley/Covington or auburn rather than Tacoma.

Grew up in Tacoma. It is ghetto. I currently live in Auburn like on the border of Kent and it’s nice here but hubby is getting relocated for his job in tacoma and we want to be closer to my parents for when the baby comes. Steilacoom, fircrest, and university place are nice places in the tacoma area. theres also DuPont too.

I lived in Tacoma for a while. Like anywhere, there are good and bad places to live. There is a crime rate map available through TPD's website.

i lived in tacoma. i was advised to live in a gated apartment complex but they were too expensive. i didnt have any problems personally but some of the areas right outside of tacoma are nicer and safer.
