So my family and I just experienced one of the nastiest, unsettling, annoying things that could happen, we got bed bugs!! Now I get home daily at 2:00 and clean our house daily, you rarely see any clutter or dirty bathrooms etc. Apparently NONE of that matters with bed bugs. They don’t thrive in mess; they only want blood. You can literally rub up against someone who has them at the grocery store and get them or sit on a movie chair seat of someone who had them and get them. I work at a nursing home and we also were in a hospital recently when we had our baby, so thinking we got it from one of those places OR we had tons of visitors over when our son was born. (It was a mild case, just about 10 of them they saw but they spread fast so they take drastic measures.)Our state is number 3 in US for them and it’s an epidemic. Now what I can’t stand is that our whole week was taken up with us heat treating EVERY cloth or clothing item in our house. It’s been 3 days and we still haven’t finished it yet. Plus we had to call an exterminator and it was nearly $700 and they had to dose our entire house carpets, mattresses, baseboards etc in chemical (70% organic compound they “said”) and also heat treated the bedrooms. (I didn’t let them put chemical in the baby room, just heat treat). He has a $300 organic mattress in his room so I thought that was counterintuitive. I guess heat alone isn’t as effective they said and we have high ceilings. They were only isolated to the bedroom but can travel. I have anxiety undiagnosed and I have severe anxiety now from this. I feel like we are sitting in chemicals and it freaks me out. I am so into organic eating and healthy cleaning products yet I just had to do this to my house. It’s an odorless chemical and supposedly only leaves a 3 month residue but they tell you to wash your sheets every week for the first month which worries me. We won’t even set our baby on bare carpet now. Has this happened to anyone or is anyone married to an exterminator? I guess I just wanted someone to know what I went through and let me know if our house will be safe once again with time. :(
