What things can I do to prevent tearing?

I know they say there is no foul proof way, but I'm open to ideas on what other mommies have done to help prevent potential tearing. Lets hear what worked for you!

deliver hands and knees or on your side rather than squatting or lythotomy (both make you push hard and cause rapid descent) try NOT to push unless you need to. breathe and let your uterus do the work. it will sound bazaar but practice when you poop. don't hold your breath and bear down, just let your body do it for you. be sure you breathe and visualize opening up like a flower to make room. stay well hydrated, eat a good diet, and obviosly refuse an epesiotomy.

When I was pushing my daughter out my on told me to stop pushing after a certain point and let my body finish. Idk if that’s what did it. But I didn’t even get a “skid” mark.

Tell your nurse you want to labor down. That just means not pushing. Let’s everything stretch out naturally and only push when you can’t stand not to

Evening Primrose Oil capsules from 36w. 
Take two orally and two vaginally every day. 
I tore a tiny tiny bit. 
My neighbour did the same and needed stitches so everyone is different but for most women it helps

Perineal massage. Also, the quicker your baby comes out the more chance you have of tearing. I pushed for 2 hours and didn’t tear at all. But the entire time I pushed, my nurse was massaging my perineum.

I used evening primrose the last few weeks and didn’t tear.  Not sure if it was coincidental or not but totally worth the $6. Will be doing again this time.

I tried to prevent tearing too but when you get an epidural, you don’t know how hard you’re pushing so it’s a 50/50 chance. I tore in a few places because my son would keep going in when I stopped pushing so his head was getting bruised I guess and the delivery nurse literally pulled him out and I had perineal and labial tears. I was torn inside and out, recovering from that was painful let me tell you. Just be careful and cautious of how hard you’re pushing

I tore very bad with my first and my second i used evening primrose tablets from 30 weeks and I didn’t tear at all I told my friend and she used it too had a 9.5 pound baby and did not tear! So I now swear by it!
