pap smear?

my mom wants me to start birth control. (im 14) im nervous for the pap smear. what was your first pap smear like?

I was about 14 when I had my first. Doctors suggest getting them as soon as you start your period. Just take a deep breath and try to relax. They are there to help you and make sure everything is okay. Good luck!

It's not as bad as everyone makes it seem. For mine, I laid down and the doctor checked my breasts for lumps (I was 20 though so I'm not sure if 14 years old would receive the same procedure), then they have you open your legs. Then they will stick one or two fingers in to check for lumps in your cervix area as well. Then the part most everyone doesn't like is when They use a qtip to swab you and check for stds or other problems, because they have to use a cold metal instrument to hold your cervix area open. It didn't hurt, it was just a bit cold. :) also there will be two people in there to be sure that you are safe and no one touches you inappropriately

Your still young for a Pap smear in my opinion . I would at least wait until your like 18. Because your only 14 . But my experience wasn’t bad at all & my doctor he was very gentle & kind. He checked my breast for lumps & he showed me how my check them myself whenever . Then he told me to spread my legs & he put 2 of his fingers up there & checked my cervix for anything abnormal. Then he explained to me & showed me the speculum ( the duck looking instrument) it’s pretty cold , & then he gentle slide it in & told me not to tense my muscles up because it will cause discomfort. Then he used a brush looking thing & swap my cervix. 
It only took about 5 mins . Lol . 
Just make sure you can trust your doctor & you have a understanding one as well.
