I was hanging out with my best friend, and we went to her boyfriends house where he was hanging out with his best friend. 😏

We were just friends for about 6 years. Not in contact every day, hung out as a group, but never just us. I had a boyfriend. He was 20. I was 17. My boyfriend was not a good person. He was mentally abusive. We lived together, with his parents. (my parents had kicked me out) I wasn’t allowed to have friends over, or go anywhere alone with friends. I wasn’t allowed to talk to absolutely any males. I wasn’t allowed to leave the house, except to go to work. He didn’t work after awhile, so I paid for everything. He also wouldn’t take me out of the house, so I spent a lot of time inside of those walls. He had all of my passwords, dictated when I could and couldn’t go to work (he drove, I had no vehicle or license). He had an awful temper, always picking fights. I lived like that for a little under two years.

One night when I was to be hanging out with my best friend, her boyfriend, and his best friend, shit hit the fan. My best friend and her boyfriend didn’t show. This left me alone with my now husband. I already knew I was in trouble. I was afraid to go home. Things got worse when the weather got too bad to drive my husbands shitty little car (it was the dead of a bad winter, snow and ice everywhere.) when we tried to leave to take me home, we slid across two lanes of traffic and almost into a guard rail. I called my then boyfriend and told him I couldn’t get home because of the weather, it wasn’t safe. This prompted him to drive to the apartment building we were at in his mother’s car (which he almost wrecked), and come up to the front door I was standing inside of with his fist raised to punch me. This was the first time he ever attempted to hit me. The door was locked with a punch code. And he couldn’t get in. He tried to break down the door (it was glass). I had my husband go back to his apartment room while all of this was going on, as he was waiting to make sure I was okay. Once he was gone, I unlocked the door and my then boyfriend plowed through it, slamming the door into me, screaming about how much of a whore I was for cheating on him by having male friends. -let me clarify that I have never cheated on anyone, ever, including him. -He tried to chase and fight my now husband, but didn’t know where his apartment was. Once he called it quits, he pulled me to the car and we left. I guess this was my turning point. I gave him back the promise ring he had given me on the drive back to his parents house and once we got there I made my intentions to leave very clear. I packed up almost all of my belongings to choruses of him and his mother calling me a slut and a whore and a horrible person amongst dozens of other insults. Z somehow managed to get his car to J’s house and loaded all of my things into it while J threatened him, tried to fight him, blocked me from getting my things out of his house until I threatened to call the cops, and threatened me. Once we were packed, we went back to Z’s apartment. Everything I had to leave behind was thrown out into the snow. I couldn’t go to my parents because they had kicked me out, so I stayed with Z for a few days until I could figure something out. During this time, he drove me to work, made sure I was fed, and fought with his roommates so I could sleep on the couch. He made me breakfast and we watched movies and it was so peaceful and different from the past two years of my life. I didn’t feel trapped. I wasn’t scared. It was amazing. He showed me what being human felt like again.

We started dating about a month later, which is much quicker than I usually move on, but it felt so natural. We got engaged in April of 2016 and conceived our first child in April of 2017. We found out we were expecting in the anniversary of our engagement. We now have a beautiful (almost) 2 month old boy together and our own place to live.

He literally saved me. He’s my hero. I owe him my entire life. I can’t imagine where I’d be now without him.
