Gender reveal party- to have or not to have?

Katy • FTM To beautiful boy

I am 12 weeks today and we did the genetic testing that will also tell us the sex of the baby. We will get the results March 2nd and I am so torn about doing a gender reveal party. If we do I would keep it just close family- our parents, grandparents, siblings, and those aunts and uncles who live close by and we are really close with. It would just be a backyard party/get together type of thing which we do pretty often anyways. Nothing fancy at all (save the bigger party for the baby shower). Part of me things it would be really fun to tell them together especially since we are not sharing the baby name. Another part of me thinks the party is silly.

If we do decide to have the party, I then have the debate of do my husband and I get surprised with everyone else or do we know beforehand and surprise them. Since this is our first child neither of us are rooting for one sex or the other, we just want a healthy baby. Then there is the how we tell people. I really like the idea where balloons filled with paint and you throw darts at them to reveal the colored paint. Unfortunately my husband hates the sound of popping balloons so I am not sure he would go for that idea. Ugh so many factors!!

What is everyone else’s opinion of gender reveal parties and the method of reveal if you do it?
