Breastfeeding is painful is this normal?

I’m on day 3 of breastfeeding and it’s so much painful to breastfeed is this normal ? Lady from hospital which is from breastfeeding depend said I latch baby perfectly on my breast! But my nipples is to much hurts when I’m putting baby on my breast so when she latch is to much painful that it’s horrible and while feeding when she suck also hurts :/ is this normal? How long it will hurt to breastfeed? I don’t want to give up :/ Plz help

Even with a perfect latch your nipples can become sore. ITS NORMAL. Use lanolin of nipple butter. Warm wash cloth compress will help too. Don’t give up :) it gets easier I promise. 💕 keep it up mama

Keep an eye on the latch and take care of your nipples! Use a nipple cream and whenever you can express a small amount of milk and rub onto the nipples and let air dry. I also prefer to wear a loose cotton shirt whenever possible (no bras or nursing pads). You can use warm compress like a wet washcloth to reduce pain and swelling, too. Avoid very hot showers so the skin doesn’t dry (I put lanolin on before AND after bathing!)
Pain is normal in the beginning. With my first they hurt so bad I would tear up every time for the first week. Then they suddenly stopped hurting and things got much easier.

use lanolin after every feed and express some breast milk on them and let them air dry. mine were never SUPER painful just uncomfortable. if you've got a good deep latch it shouldn't hurt. and the uncomfortable feeling goes away after the first minute or so that I latch my son. after like the first 2 weeks I barely feel any pain at all.

Yes the first week is the hardest. Your nipples will get use to it. DONT GIVE UP! Just make sure you go topless as much as you can or put a cup over your nipples to prevent anything touching them. That will help them heal faster.

mine hurt for a few days after i left hospital too. there should be a lactation number for u to call if u are concerned. hang in there, itll get better!

It was painful for like 3-4 weeks for me, then one day I was just fine lol. I thought something was wrong, I was in the verge of tears at every feeding! I’m glad I stick through with it.

No. Pain is not normal. It should not hurt like at all. Make sure when baby is latched that it only has skin that’s part of your nipple, not any of the other breast skin. This can happen, and the latch looks right.

It’s normal unfortunately. But it does get better.
I used to use lansinoh ice packs after feeding.
I tried to feed her when she wasn’t too hungry so that she didn’t clamp down as hard.
I switched the hold between cradle and football so that the angle was different every time.
Lots of coconut oil
At the worst of it, I used a nipple shield and that was a life saver. I only needed it for a couple of days.
At one point, I gave her some formula. She only drank an oz but that helped me and her become more calm as we tried nursing again. That was the only oz of formula she ever got and she just turned 11 months yesterday.

I remember a lot of pain in the first few weeks it got better when I developed a better hold and she got better at latching, I kept going to the breastfeeding support group locally, do you have one of those?

I had no help in the hospital with getting a good latch so my right nipple cracked right away. It hurt so bad to nurse on that side while it healed that I would cry. Don't give up it gets better! I've only been breast feeding a month but it's so much better. I put nipple cream on after every feeding which really helped. Nipple pain got better after a week.
