Bleach bath for eczema??

My poor 3.5 month old baby girl has eczema all over her body and today the pediatrician recommended we put a little bit of bleach in her bath water. I have never heard of this and it kind of freaks me out! We tried Eucerin for eczema which didn’t do much, and now are using hydrocortisone 1% but if we don’t use it 2x every single day her skin just flares right back up. I asked the dr about the prescription steroid cream that other people I know have used but she acted like that was a last resort. Anyone ever tried and had success with bleach baths helping their baby’s excema??

I had TERRIBLE eczema as a kid, my dermatologist said worst she had seen. I still have it as an adult and have NEVER done a bleach bath. I would get a second opinion from a pediatric dermatologist.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who finds this a strange recommendation! It was from a very well established pediatric drs office though. She said if I just use a tiny bit it is no different than putting them in a swimming pool, which kind of does make sense but still just seems so harsh! But then again if we end up needing the steroid cream I’m sure that’s not the most gentle product either... I think I try those oatmeal bath treatments and see how she does.

I discussed this with my LO‘s pediatrician when she had a bad flare up at 3 or 4 month old and he said it’s not recommended for babies that young. I did take her to a friends pool though and it actually helped quiet a bit, and I also did the Aveeno bath treatments for 2 weeks and all her bad spots were gone after that! Now when she has a bad flare up I take her to the pool and use the hydrocortisone cream and it’s working pretty good (can’t do the Aveeno bath anymore because they are not supposed to get it in their mouth and I can’t stop my daughter from drinking bath water 🙄). What I’m trying to say is I guess bleach (chlor) actually works, but maybe you feel more comfortable doing it in another setting like a pool as well.

Do not I repeat do NOT ever put bleach on your child. Ever. They could ingest it let alone, ouch to their private parts and everywhere else. Get Aveeno oatmeal bath packets, Aveeno oatmeal bath soap, and see a damn dermatologist

I’ve heard of this but for adult skin that’s thicker. Baby skin is so thin and her private areas will be in that water too which will be stripped of their protective flora by the bleach. I believe you should ask for a referral to a pediatric dermatologist and seek other options.

umm im pretty sure there are other options your doctor could have recommended. that would not be an option for me
