negative pregnancy test

so I'm late for my period, I took a pregnancy test yesterday it came out negative so today is three days late.... me and my boyfriend have been trying for around 8 months to have a baby and nothing.... It's stressing me out that I'm late and I have a negative test. when should I try to test again???
