how do you discipline your 1 year old?

I HAVE A NEWBORN AND A 17 MTH OLD IM NOT SURE IF HES ACTING OUT DUE TO JEALOUSY OR HES JUST GROWING UP. HE CONPLETELY IGNORES ME WHEN I SAY "STOP" or "dont do this" i have tried taking him out with me more since i home with the baby alot....idk im getting frustrated please help

You don’t discipline a one year old. They don’t have the mental capacities to understand the consequences of their actions. Baby proof the house and play areas and remove them from the situation when they are doing something unsafe. Distraction works well at this age. Explain calmly why they can’t keep doing what they were doing but don’t expect them to understand and remember for a long time yet. Toddlers aren’t exactly known for stellar impulse control and that is entirely normal. Disciplining does nothing positive for your child.

He is at an age where he could be testing the limits. He could also very much be jealous of the baby and adjusting to the changes. So be firm and consistent and clear about your expectations.  
It is important to save your firmness and “discipline” at this age to safety issues. Hitting, throwing, unsafe behaviors (climbing on dangerous things, running in street, etc). Your very firm NO’s should be reserved for that type of behavior. 
 
I would modify schedules, environment, and expectations in order to remove as many obstacles and things that could possibly cause issues. He’s still very little and if you’re constantly saying no or be careful it gets old and he will learn to tune you out.  
 You could give him little jobs to be helpful 
Continue to take just him out on outings occasionally 
Reward him verbally when he does something positive

Discipline is good for kids who have the mental faculties to understand it. One year old children are not those people. It's still 100% up to caregivers to keep them alive. They have NO concept of right and wrong yet. For the love of god, please do not attempt to discipline your BABY. You will make everyone's life a lot harder.

Put him on time out, take away his favorite toys when he ignores you or doesn’t listen. Just like how your supposed to teach them to read and their numbers & stuff since they are little I believe your suppose to show them what’s rite and wrong. Some people don’t believe in “Discipline” but I do.

i shout no and i slap his hand. he would laugh at me in the beginning, but i think he's starting to get it and he's not even a year and a half yet. the earlier you try discipline the better

I put my 14 month old in his playpen when he doesn't listen. Do it one time that's fine, I say no and redirect him to play with toys. But if I catch him doing it again, it's playpen time. And I know he knows he's doing something wrong cause he runs away as soon as mommy comes. I don't spank him or anything just hold and and firmly tell him what's he's doing is DANGER, and you can hurt yourself. So playpen time for 15 mins.

Redirection. It’s way less effort and less frustrating on your end to just nip it immediately by redirecting rather than repeating “no” or “stop it” until you’re ready to hit them (not that you would, but just saying spanking a baby (or anyone) is moronic, and more frustrating for all parties).

No but seriously anyone with actual insightful advice that isn’t condescending?  how do you deal with one year old fits? I understand they have BIG emotions and no way to communicate them or understand that things are unsafe and were not just big fun grinches, but that doesnt Change that it is behavior for attention/to get what they want. My son is doing the same and idk whether to let him roll and ignore the fit (while making sure he is safe in doing so) and then “explain” and love on him after he has calmed down or what. The above is what I have done and t hust escalated so I tried offering him a “cooler” option and that has gone over better I just don’t want to seem like I’m rewarding that behavior I guess. He hits and bites and grabs and thrashes. he’s NEVER been around physical behavior and I’ve never spanked or anything so he hasn’t picked it up from around the home idk why he gets so violently angry.

I have 2 one year olds at my house all day. I have baby proofed our play room and I rarely say no. Instead of no I try to say "Sit down please, show me how you sit down" (they like to stand on the ride on toys) after 3 or 4 times I take them out of the room because I can't take it anymore. I tell the kids they can try again tomorrow. This works for me ... you have to find what works for you
