Our doctor required the testing before the start of our cycle for the major things we were at risk for.

We did carrier screening mainly because we had already reached our deductible for the year and knew we’d be wanting to start a family the next year- turns out we both carry the same recessive mutation (less than 1/50,000 chance) that would meant a 25% chance we’d have a baby that would die in early childhood and at the latest in their mid 30’s. It’s completely changed our game plan because now our only option is IVF and moved our timeline and I’m so glad we have all the information to be fully prepared on this journey!
