Nipple shields for painful breastfeeding - yes or no?

I’m 20+2 so not due to give birth any time soon, but I just wanted to get some opinions on nipple shields.

With my daughter, breastfeeding was SOOOO painful!!! It took months of screaming and bleeding nipples before it got better. I think it was because my nipples are quite big and she was tiny (the nurses said she was latched on properly).

I’m worried about going through the same thing again and I’ve heard about woman using nipple shields to help with painful breastfeeding. Has anyone here used nipple shields and would you recommend them? If so, any particular brand? Can they be reused & do you have any more advice on nipple shields?
