Night diapers - daily leaks in size 3 Huggies overnights. What can we do?

My baby is 5 mo and about 17 lbs. we bought a value pack of size 3 Huggies overnights and are barely halfway and he’s leaking thru them every night. I feel like a laundry maid cleaning poop and pee so much out of his clothes and sheets.
Do you use night diapers ? Any suggestions ? I read somewhere to size up 2 sizes if you’re leaking is that right ? 
Last night he leaked thru his diaper, outfit Merlin suit crib sheet and the leak proof sheet in his mattress 😩
What are we doing so wrong- am I putting it on wrong he’s in the weight limit for it (16-28lbs!!)

I would either size up a diaper or switch brands. Some diapers just don't work well for some babies. We could never use Luvs with my son, he blew out or leaked in them no matter what size we used. But if we used Pampers or Honest diapers, we never had a problem.

We have the same problem with the Huggies overnites sometimes. He’ll go several nights with no leaks, then suddenly he’s leaking for several nights in a row. He does love water and drinks it all day, but I don’t let him have it for at least an hour or 2 before bed. I had his blood sugar checked to make sure he isn’t diabetic and all was good there. I know it’s frustrating. 
My son is 15 months old and 26 lbs. he’s been wearing a size 4 during the day (pampers baby dry) and size 4 of Huggies overnites at night. I think I’m going to try sizing up to size 5 after reading these comments and see if we can get away with just using the larger size in pampers for day and night. If that doesn’t work, maybe try the boosters. Thanks for the post! I’ve been needing info on this myself! Good luck!

Make sure when you pull the diaper over his penis that his penis is pointing down into the diaper. (Towards his knees) if his penis is pointing up then the diaper doesn’t have as much material there to catch the urine causing leaks. 
Also go up a size for night one diapers.

My baby can’t wear Huggies at all. He wears Pampers swaddlers size 2 or baby dry size 3 (baby dry fit smaller). He doesn’t leak overnight (8-10 hours)

does he still eat during the night? my little bit was leaking through his diapers if he ate more than once during the night. (now he sleeps through the night and we haven't had any problems with leaks)

I would size up one size or try a different brand. Also they make diaper doublers (babies r us) which are pads that go in the diaper to help with absorption.

You aren’t doing anything wrong.  Some kids pee so much at night, even nighttime diapers are no match.
We used Huggies Overnights and boosters (on Amazon).  We would still have leaking, but the boosters helped.

Use those for daytime so you don’t waste them and buy size 4’s. I’d try pampers

Pampers, Luvs, and Honest diapers I seem to never really have a problem with leaking. When my son was leaking pee though I realized the diaper was too big but the smaller diaper he would blow out of during the day. So he wears the size 4 at night and size 5 during the day 😅

I had this problem with my oldest. He pees so much and since he would have bottles throughout the night he would always leak so I would have to change his diaper several times a night or else he would wake up in the middle of the night soaking wet. Fortunately he was a deep sleeper so he would sleep through the diaper change. I tried ALL the overnight diapers and huggies , luvs, pampers, target brand, sams brand. Nothing would hold all night long.
