How Much Do We Really "Earn" After Paying For Childcare?

How much do you really earn after paying for childcare? The company I worked for is renegotiating wages and made me an offer that still puts me in the negative after paying for our sitter. Sometimes we have family to watch our son and we split the difference my partner and I so can still view it as some profit being made. But in the end we're talking about 10 to 60 for a 6 hour shift. So how much difference do you make and how is it worth it?

It’s why I’m a sahm. We wouldn’t earn enough for it to matter after paying childcare for two kids.

Our daycare is about 20% of our paychecks so we're definitely still bringing home money even after mortgage, bills, savings, etc. I recommend everyone make a budget and look at how you would come out in the end. If it's higher then 40-50% of your paycheck I would look at different options if possible.

I stay at home now. it would have cost 2/3 of my paycheck to put my daughter in decent care, and then add the cost of formula because my workplace had such a skeleton crew I wouldn't have been able to feasibly pump. The kicker is I was a preschool teacher. I literally could not afford to put my child in care equal to the care I was providing to other families. It wasn't fair and I wasn't going to put her in sub standard facilities or sketchy home based care while I took care of other people's children.

We pay 40 a day for childcare. As soon as he turns one it will be 30 a day. So that’s 800 a month for us. 1/6 of our income a month is spent on daycare

If we had to pay for childcare I wouldn’t work. My paycheck would be negative. We work opposite shifts and my dad can cover the couple hours in between for free.

For my first son it took about 1/3 of my salary. Then I had twins and it would take just about my whole salary (except a couple hundred dollars) so I stayed home
