Crying it out - how long?

Question

For those of you who let your toddlers (my son will be 2 in late March) cry it out for naps, how long do u give them? I let him cry about 10-15 minutes unless it’s an intense cry and then I go in to talk to him and reassure him. Problem is he cries when I hug him and when I leave bc he just wants to be held. Should I let him cry until he puts himself to sleep?
I’m also worried about his nose running so much that it will drip into his mouth and give him a sore throat. M I being too worried?

that won't cause a sore throat. fyi the mucus already goes down his throat bc the nose and throat are connected.

I did 5 minute intervals but started when LO was much younger. She rarely had to go longer than the 15. I feel like an older kid would be more stubborn because the habits are much more ingrained.

My sons only a year and a half, doesn’t give any issues for nap time but I usually lay him in his pack and play with a warm milk and a stuffed animal he holds and he listens nursery rhymes on tv then falls asleep. I’ve also heard that a warm bath before hand helps them relax and fall asleep easier. Just things you can try.

My son is 11 months and I let him go 30 mins.  We've been doing this since 7 months and he still doesn't go down without a fuss. If he's still crying, I nurse him for a bit then put him back.
