Sad and heartbroken

So I had a crush on this guy. He is really sweet and smart. Overall he’s a really good guy. One of friends wanted to help us get together, so they asked him did he like me. Note that I’m African American and he’s White and mix with a lil bit of Honduras. He said he liked me as a friend, but I didn’t get upset (yes, I did cry) at that. The thing that got me sad was he said he couldn’t date anyone outside of his race because of his stepdad. I know that I can’t do anything about it, but it makes me upset that people thing that color is a boundary to love.
