Why does putting in a tampon hurt?

I’m 14 years old (I know, pretty young, no hate please) and I’ve been trying really hard to use tampons correctly. I’m always missing out on swimming with my friends and normal activities because I’m using pads. I’m fine with pads, but I think that tampons would be great too. Every time I try to use one I feel discomfort. I’m pretty sure I put the tampon in all the way, maybe I’m too young? I need help😫

Are you putting one foot up on the toilet and making sure you go straight up and not at an angle? It’s okay to use tampons at 14.

I always start with regular size. Don’t put it in right after you wipe. It’ll be sort of dry. I always waited a little after wiping to insert because I felt that the blood would help it go in easier. You can always wipe around it afterwards. I insert it as far as I can and make sure it’s not hanging out, just the string is because if I bent or sat down it would hurt bad.

Use a small compact sized tampons, I’m 13 and I just started using tampons as well. But start out small there’s no need to be using really big ones.

also make sure you aren't leaving them in for excessive time frames. every box has instructions maybe the diagrams can help. when I was young to get use to them my mom got me a pack of lites and told me to try them (I'd wear a pad too to catch leaks because lites are small) and if they felt comfortable to move to regulars and that helped me out so much. good luck!

Make sure you're not tense when inserting a tampon. Either squat or put one foot up on the toilet seat for your position. Use a clean finger to guide the tampon straight and up at an angle. If it hurts its either on the wrong angle, not in far enough (you have no nerves on your vaginal walls), or perhaps the tampon is too big. Good luck (:
