how do you decide what kind of iud is best for you?

Answer

There are two basic types - one with hormones and one without. So because I need hormones for my period to not put me in the hospital (before my IUD I was on birth control since I was 13 because of how weird and borderline dangerous my periods were) which narrowed the choice down to Mirena, Liletta, Skyla  and Kyleena. Skyla only lasts three years so to me it was like 'I'm going to have to go through the same process why not get a longer lasting one' and Kyleena didn't really release enough hormones for my doctor to be sure that it would work the same as the pill. So then it was down to Mirena and Liletta and Liletta is kind of the 'off brand' of Mirena which makes it cheaper but since I have insurance - Mirena was the way for me to go. 
It definitely comes down to what you want and need hormone wise and then how long you want it for. I would suggest talking to your doctor and then together deciding what's best for you and your body. Sometimes, it even comes down to the size of your cervix - my doctor's main concern was that because I had never given birth that the Mirena would be too big so she had to measure my cervix before we made a for sure decision. But it's 5-7 years that I don't have to worry about remembering to take a pill and I don't have to worry about ending up in the hospital due to being anemic or losing too much iron so the IUD was an awesome choice for me.

The first choice is if you want a IUD with hormones in it or not. Then if you want the hormonal ones there are different sizes for how long you can keep it for but most people’s periods get less or none at all. The non-hormonal one only has one and it’s called Paraguard and that one lasts for 12 years but your period get longer. Good luck!
