That’s not really how gifts work. I don’t think you should get someone a gift if you’re expecting something in return for it. You should get them a gift because you wanted to. Not because you wanted them to get you something. If you wanted to do a gift exchange, that should be communicated so there are no confusions and hurt feelings.
