Doula?

Question

I’m looking into getting a doula, but I don’t know a lot about what they do and what the benefits are. Anyone ever worked with a doula? Do you recommend it? What was the cost?

i had one last pregnancy and rehired her again this pregnacy as well. i think they are a great asset to a good birth expeirence. i paid 750

I am extremely lucky to have found a doula through a friend of a friend who is doing it for me in exchange for positive reviews for her website. That being said, I am so glad to have found her! She comes with me to any appointments I ask for and that really makes me feel alot better, because with my husband's work he can't come sometimes and I get really anxious. 
During birth she will teach him how to comfort me and will comfort me herself if he needs a break. She will kick anyone out of the room if I ask, and is taking into account my personal preferences for labor and will speak up if for some reason I can't. Post partum, especially if I have a Csection, she will follow up with me and share resources if I have trouble with recovery, breastfeeding, post partum depression etc.
