What did you take for heartburn while pregnant?

My doctor said she would rather me take Zantac instead of tums. Anyone know why?

I take Zantac twice a day and pop a tums if heartburn flares up randomly in between, which seems like all day everyday right now 🔥

Tums are high in calcium which can impact your ability to absorb iron so if you're taking it all the time, the doctor might be concerned about you developing an iron deficiency.   That or he/she is concerned with the extra acid production causing damage to your esophagus.  
I've had acid reflux issues for 20 years and find that the best way to deal with it normally is with Zantac (Ranitidine).   Now that I'm in my 3rd trimester, the reflux has gotten so bad that I had to start on a prescription PPI along with Zantac.

Tums is a quick fix that neutralizes the already existing acid that’s in your stomach. Zantac will help stop the overproduction of acid to begin with. Zantac twice a day (morning and night), supplement with Tums on a rough day, and that has worked really well.
