I’ve been having period cramps all through the night on and off and now again this morning, when a cramp comes my abdomen goes completely solid for the duration of the cramp, am I having contractions??

Could be. My contractions were ever only cramps. Never felt it in the top. Right through whole labor. Cramps painful af and tightening could be felt from outside only
