I'm 11 Weeks, and Dr. is already mentioning C-Section?

Lindsay

Hi everyone.

Currently, I'm 11 weeks, 4 days pregnant. My blood pressure is on the high side, but so far no signs of gestational diabetes. I am also (morbidly) obese. I weigh 302lbs as of my last appointment. I'm also 5'7" - and while I have a bit of my stomach, my weight is spread about evenly. It hasn't affected my physical ability or anything like that. (I was lifting, squatting 100, 500+ lbs. prior to the pregnancy when I was strength training with a personal trainer. I was also capable of running a mile, non-stop as part of my warmup.)

Yesterday, my doctor mentioned that I will probably need a C-Section. This is my first child, and I'm honestly furious that he would even be suggesting that this early? (Someone please let me know if I'm wrong, here.) My blood pressure has him worried about preeclampsia, but everything I've read, risk factors aside, is that it's unpredictable.

I feel as if he's just looking past my weight, and the common thing for Dr.'s is to assume because I'm fat, I will need a C-section. I want to experience a vaginal birth. My mother was obese when she had me and my little sister (15 years apart) - and she still delivered vaginally after having a gastric bypass and a lot of other complications (my sister being born at 32 weeks).

I will be the first person in my family to ever have a C-section if this is the case.

I'm thinking about switching doctors, not just for the second opinion, but because I don't want a Dr. that is going to jump to conclusions and make premature decisions.

Thoughts? Am I right to be this angry? Does anyone else have a similar experience?
