If the baby will be sleeping in our room do you think it’s necessary to get?

SIDS is much, much more notorious than it is common.  In the US, there are like .... 1500 cases per year or something like this? In a country of 325,000,000 people.  
And you can cut your teensy tiny infinitesimal risk even more just by not smoking around your kids.
Also - make sure there’s nothing in the crib your baby can suffocate on (blankets, pillows, toys).  Suffocation is a different thing- it’s not SIDS.  But it can be prevented much better.  Nothing to suffocate on = no suffocation.
For baby safety, if makes way more sense to worry about big-risk items like car safety and adult hand washing.
I suppose if you have irrational anxiety about SIDS- maybe it will make YOU sleep better? But its expensive and not necessary for safety at all.

I had the angelcare mat and the Snuza.... Biggest waste of money.  Maternal instincts will never trust  a machine.  you'll still be constantly checking  on baby.

I put it on our registry and received it as a gift. Haven’t used it yet but I’m a worry wart so I know it’ll help me fall asleep easier.

Our baby girl sleeps in the room with us and we still use it. We love our Owlet.

I have anxiety and honestly the owlet helps me to sleep at night, even with him in our room. For that, it's worth it to me. I don't use it to track his heart rate or oxygen or anything like that, I just use it for the red and blue alerts. We've never had an alert and hopefully it stays that way.

I've never had a midwife or doctor recommend them. part of why it's recommended to have baby with you is because it's thought to be protection against SIDS to be sleeping close enough to hear your breathing patterns. so I agree that they're not necessary at all and just preying on new parent fears

Not necessary and for me I was scared it would cause more anxiety because I’ve heard many stories of it going off because it gets kicked off her baby hiccups or snores. With them right next to you, you should be able to hear them no problem! My daughter sleeps in the next room (she’s a year now, has since 6 months) and I still wake up immediately if she makes a peep. Mom senses are crazy and real! Lol
