thoughts on a Nerf gun for a toddler?

My family wants to get my toddler a Nerf gun. 😑 opinions!?

Nope. I would say no to a nerf gun. They’re unnecessary and a pain. I know a little kid who has twenty nerf guns and all day long he talks about shooting people. And he shoots the nerf guns at people. That won’t be my kid. We can play with a water gun during the summer but not a nerf gun with those foam bullets.

If my son asks for one, I'll get him on one of the basic ones, not the fancy overpriced battery powered ones  I'll teach him to not to EVER aim/shoot/point it at others. Kids usually get tired of them bc of the clean up lol

My sister has 3 boys and her husband is in the military. They've gotten nerf guns for their kids since they were little because it's a big part of their life. My husband and I hunt and we plan on getting our son or daughter a real gun around age 5. I don't see anything wrong with nerf guns. I think it's a good way to already teach them about guns and some gun safety.

It’s a personal choice. Each family has their own belief about guns and gun safety. So it’s really up to you and your SO about what you’re comfortable with. 
Guns are not allowed in our home. Guns aren’t toys so therefore shouldn’t be played with. When a child pretends to have a gun I let them know that it isn’t a game and it isn’t a toy, that’s how we teach gun safety. 
I also believe that there’s an age when it’s just inappropriate to even think that they could play with a nerf gun safely and not be obnoxious about it LOL 
I wouldn’t say a toddler typically is capable of that. Perhaps an older preschooler?!

I used to be the mom who said no to all toy guns for my boys. I quickly learned that my son already knew what a gun was and what it did "boom boom". I think it is a good way to teach kids about guns and safety if they are the right age, plus they are fun :).
