Toys that help 'prep' for first time anal?

I've never had full on anal though I've tried in many relationships, I'm 43 (so the term 'many' is relative). I've had my share of living with boyfriends, one night stands, ...etc. but Everytime we tried it was just too painful. My husband has always been interested and we both enjoy when he's behind me and occasionally uses his finger in me anal at the same time, especially him. I've seen some anal toys of different sizes that are supposed to help stretch to make anal more comfortable and fun. Has anyone tried anything like this? Or does anyone have any recommendations to handle it?

I used butt plugs for a week or two before I did anal and it didn’t hurt at all. I only used the ‘beginner’ plugs and he was a lot bigger but with lots of lube it pretty much felt the same as normal sex to me 🤷🏼‍♀️

Butt plugs for sure, but a 2 or 3 pack with different sizes

Get anal beads. 
Insert them all the way (there are some that stay small and don’t increase in size). 
Have him go from behind you. Doggy. 
Every time he thrusts, he’ll be hitting the end of the beads so you will be getting use to having something way up there and moving. 
Wayyyyy more effective than just wearing a plug.
