Best Placement for Infant Car Seat?

We have a 5 seat car so only 3 seats in the back. Which placement is best and safest?

I don't know why so many people say behind the passenger seat. A quick Google search of some safety websites will tell you the safest place is the middle seat to keep baby insulated from side crashes. However, if your car doesn't have latches in the center back seat, as many don't, the next safest is behind the driver seat since they say drivers instinctually navigate to protect their side of the car in the event of a crash.

The safest spot is where you can get the best install. Ideally, it would be the middle, but not every car can get a safe proper install in the middle.

I’ve always put the car seat behind passenger seat. My theory is that the middle is not protected from stopping something going through the window to the backseat. My next thought is not to put baby behind driver because that’s the center part of the road and another car will most likely hit the driver side. More likely than a car coming from the ditch. So, that’s why I put my babies behind the passenger. We live in a small town with mostly backroads.

I got to fit two car seats in my car, so the toddler I’m going in the middle and the infant will be behind the driver, that way I can put my toddler into the car and she can climb into her seat, and then I can snap the infant seat into the base, I can then get into the drivers seat and turn around and be able to buckle up my toddler (she is forward facing) this is the best I have found, bc it will then leave the passenger side seat available for if I need to have anyone sit back there.
