How to ask my boss to extend my maternity leave reasons and how?

I called Human Resources and just told them what my new return date would be. I don’t think they’re legally allowed to question anything 🤷🏻‍♀️ in NC they will hold my job up to a year for parental leave, no questions asked.

So they have maternity leave, then they have baby bonding time... normal maternity leave is 6 weeks 8 weeks if you have a c section, then there is baby bonding time which is 12 weeks...

Becau I only work part time, I didn’t qualify for any FMLA. I got 6 weeks of short term and am currently using my vacation time for the rest, I had to ask permission to stay out 2 weeks unpaid. I just stated that I really needed the time to bond with my baby

Under FMLA my work was legally required to hold my job for 12 weeks, my supervisor extended it to 14 weeks for me and any longer I would lose my benefits (health and 401k). I would just ask if they can extend it because you don't feel like your baby is ready to be separated, worst case they will reject your request. I go back on Monday and will be a complete mess 😭.

Legally, if you are under fmla you can request a new date (you probably won’t get paid) but if you aren’t under fmla (if you are in the US, they don’t have to keep your job for you and can let you go.
