This will be a really long post so I apologize. I just need tips because in this day in age, adulting is HARD.

My husband and I have been married for almost 2 years now. He’s always had issues with money so I became the one to deal with our finances because I am a tight ass as he calls me.

Well our checking account has $500 at the moment and he gets paid every 1st and 15th. He’s in the military. I became a SAHM because we have no family where we live to watch our son and I am over protective and don’t want him in daycare. He makes enough for the both of us. A little extra cash would help our situation I know, but I can’t get comfortable with my son going to daycare. He’s 10 months old. I digress. Our savings account has almost $50k in it. We try our hardest not to pull out of it, because once we touch it it seems to deplete quickly. It earns interest pretty fast so sometimes we can take $1000 one month and it’s back by two or three months.

We don’t have rent. We own our vehicles out right. They’re both 2016s so they have warranties. We only pay for food, utilities, cell phones, and a couple other bills like a student loan. We just spend so much of his check each month that we can barely add to our savings. Not to mention we owe a lot of medical bills. I’m talking almost $10k worth. Not to mention, we have $500 in credit card debt. I have made 100% of the payments so we aren’t behind. Just racked up a couple hundred.

My husband thinks we should pay it all off at one time and pull out of our savings. I don’t know what to do. I’d rather make small monthly payments in case something happens and we need that money to stay on our feet. But then again, this year we are getting $5k back in tax money so I may pay some of it off with that.

I’ve tried my hardest, but since he makes the money I feel bad telling him no he can’t eat out for lunch one day or he can’t order pizza. He works so hard and sacrifices for us but he loves to spend his money. He just got new boots and running shoes then had to get this Oakley back pack that was $180 because he could apparently use it at work. I feel guilty not working and yet I control the money that I don’t even work for. But if I don’t, we wouldn’t have a savings at all.

I want to be debt free. My credit is fair, my husband has no credit. My credit would be perfect if I didn’t have medical bills in collections. All of this stresses me out because we do want to own our own house one day. We want a college fund for our son. We come from decently wealthy families and we don’t even know how to get on top of our finances. I feel like we are doing bad in life but we probably have a lot more than a lot of people our age. We’re 22 & 23.

I guess what I am asking is, how can I go about paying off our debt? I want everything paid off, and I want us to at least have a decent savings. I don’t want to take a lot out to pay this off but if that’s what it’ll take then I guess we will have to. Even though it makes me cringe. Are there any debt consolidating numbers I can call?
