Is this canopy excessive?

Hi! I’m wondering how useful the car seat canopy is, FTM here. Our baby is due in July so I can see the benefit of it being large to keep him out of the sun while we are out and about. Online is says the canopy is UPF 50+ with side ventilation. How useful was/is your canopy?

I think it looks fabulous! No more baby crying in the car because the sun is in their eyes and they don't know how to turn their head into the shade yet! Lol 😂 also if you use it with a travel system it'll be great for keeping the sun off or in your shopping cart it'll keep strangers from touching your baby 👍🏼👍🏼 I love it. Wish more car seats had that option! We got the Nuna Pipa because of the dream drape, but the one you're looking at looks just as nice!

I have a Cybex aton car seat, with a similar canopy, and we have used it a lot, mostly to avoid snow on the baby (the joys of having a January baby and living north of the polar circle) but it’s also great against wind and sun.

We have the nuna pipa with dream drape, kinda similar to this canopy. We’re due in June and I made sure what ever car seat we got had an extended canopy for a few reasons. 1) baby is to small to wear sunscreen and where we live it’s easily 100 degrees Plus humidity during July and August. So baby needs some form of sun protection. 
2) if god forbid we are ever in a car accident and his car seat malfunctions due to manufacturing and we have something, anything on his car seat that wasn’t manufactured with the car seat (canopy cover, blanket, toys, etc) we would be held liable for any damage our son endured because of our “negligence and failure to operate the car seat according to the manual”. To me it’s worth having an extended canopy

I think that would be awesome for when you take baby out of the car but want to leave them in the carseat. Even just getting our sons carseat into the stroller, I like to have something covering him, especially if it’s raining or snowing. I wish our carseat had that.
