Will having an account where I can pay for stuff monthly (like Ginny's catalog) improve my credit score?

I made a post awhile ago about how my mom ruined my credit score. I don't know much about how credit works. Do I have to get out a credit card or could I just pay for things monthly with my debit card?

If they report the account to the credit bureaus, then yes, it will reflect on your score. It does NOT have to be a credit card, it just has to be an open account that is reported by the creditor.

Yes they report to the credit bureau but you will end up paying almost double for the product in the end.

Fingerhut.com will. I'm not sure all the other stores like this report to credit bureau. what you should know they are overpriced and shipping is expensive. but to build credit history is a good start. buy something you could use and heck reviews - like bedding or some small stuff for the bathroom. make monthly payments don't be tempted to pay off fast  so you don't have to buy something else again. so be patient. don't forget to pay on time. I have set up payment of 10$ each payday and this way I'm sure I won't miss a payment or payment won't go through.

I recommend you check your credit score on AnnualCreditReport.com every 4 months. It's completely free and accurate. It shows Experian, Transunion & Equifax. Run one company every 4 months.

You would have to use a credit card. I would recommend a secured card if you have bad credit. I do accounting.
