Just realized I was halfway to a pun there - it'll be "mute"ual. Bu-dum-tish!
Update to Mute Feature

Rachel • Glow Community Manager
Good news! We've made an update to the Community that improves the Mute feature (also known as "block"). Now, when you mute another user, not only will you not see their posts or comments, now they can't see yours.
Now, if you find things getting heated between you and another user, you can just mute them and be certain that it's mutual.

Yay! Now, can we ban the porn vs no porn debate? Seems no one can respect the opposing side’s views without them trying to explain how the other is completely wrong for their opinion. Honestly, it’s beating a dead horse.

Omg I completely agree! These days you can't say anything without a debate about it...I guess no one can say their own opinion anymore without someone else having something to say about your opinion...everyone's got to be political correct these days...

*blocks every single person you don't agree with* *sees a controversial post* *has you opinion validated over and over, reassuring you that you are absolutely correct and that every one agrees with you**completely forgets that there are people with different opinions*

My feeling is that someone who goes to that extent to create themselves a bubble will a) quickly be inhabiting a virtual ghost town and b) was unlikely to change their opinion in the first place.
And I'd probably prefer that to them just reporting every single person who disagrees with them and/or going around calling them dumb bitches (or whatever.)

Not to sound like a malcontent, but quick question about the new feature. If this means the blocked person can’t see the blockers posts and comments, what’s to stop users from blocking someone then making callout posts about them, and/or impersonating their accounts? I’ve seen both things happen a ton on here, and it seems like mass reporting is the only thing that takes care of the issue.

Thanks for answering Rachel. I’m not thrilled about people essentially being able to wink themselves out of existence to specific users. I keep picturing someone like banned user Tina manipulating it. I hope that’s rare user behavior. I’m also unapologeticly fucking nosy, but that’s a me issue I guess lol. The mute/report count is super interesting. I can see how they’d rack up for any CC regular, but it’s good to know you differentiate.

Just to answer a few questions here - All reported posts and comments will be reviewed by an admin (barring a glitch or something). Generally, most reports are made by people other than those directly involved, so I don't think muting will impact that very much. Lastly, let's say you mute Person A (let's call her Alice.) From Alice's point of view, it will look exactly the same as if you deleted all your posts and left the app. She won't see any of your future stuff, or any of your past stuff. I'm not saying that there aren't people who are determined to be rude that they will continue to wage a campaign under those circumstances, but they're pretty few and far between, and tend to be so extreme that they're reported by lots of people. Plus, from what I can tell, people who do that sort of thing live most for being able to upset their targets.
And we also have an admin tool that shows us who is racking up mutes/blocks, comment flags, or user reports. If someone is being a nuisance, they climb up that list pretty quickly, and we know there's a problem when someone who isn't one of the usual suspects crop up. (Note: the usual suspects don't mean users who are trouble, just people who may cluster to the top of the list for other reasons. For example, people who spend most of their time arguing about highly contentious issues just naturally attract more reports/mutes without it being a sign of anything nefarious. But if you're a user who comes out of nowhere and are now at the top of the chart, well, that's usually a sign of trouble.)

I didn’t block anyone. I simply see a few potential issues with the feature specifically as it relates to this group. I’ve always chosen not to use mute, and it feels like the new system makes that choice for me now. If the majority of users like it though that’s fine.
