negative hpt

my husband and I have been ttc for 3 months. I'm on cycle day 37 and have taken several hpt all have been negative, but my period is late. I was previously on birth control which regulated my cycle, prior to taking birth control my periods varied. any advice would greatly appeciated. thanks
