What is the point of calling someone daddy/mommy?

I am NOT shaming anyone if they liked to be called or say these things I just want to understand it better. I’ve always been curious as to why calling someone something you’d call your parents a turn on. Is it something to do with authority?Once again I am not shaming anyone I just want to be better educated on this.

It's defo not my thing, but my understanding is it's because it's a) a position of authority that is b) also associated with affection/nurturing.

So when we use these terms it's because the dom is usually nuturing,they take care of you and make sure you're alright and that you're feeling okay. It is not just sexual even outside of that setting your dom will still be Daddy because he still wants to make sure that you're taken care of and healthy and happy. At the same time he's your disciplinary. It's when your relinquish all of the control in your life like a child and you no longer have to worry about being an adult or responsibilities when you're in that little state. Your mommy or daddy will give you things to do to help take care of you... but nothing more than you can handle. And this is when you're like right on the cusp of age play because sometimes very little separates the two. It is about dominance, control, nuturing, and love/trust. I personally couldn't call my boyfriend daddy but sometime some people just get kinky af during sex and its a turn on for the current submissive. As far as people saying it in public or as a normal nickname, to me screams parental issues. Why would you need to call you SO mommy/daddy in a nonsexual setting unless talking to your child.

It also depends a lot on the culture you grew up in. Growing up Hispanic, it is normal and a term of endearment to call people “mami” or “papi”. You can say that to your significant other, your child, your pet.. i never really questioned it, that was just the norm. I personally think it’s cute, but I’m used to it and can tell the difference by how people say the word.

it makes me feel little. idk sometimes i get into a mood where i feel very childish and it’s nice to be thrown around and told what to do, especially when he calls himself daddy like “do what daddy says”. i really like to feel small and like im being taken care of and sometimes calling him daddy makes me feel that way

For the first year and a half of me and my Dom's relationship, I never called him daddy, I have a super close relationship with my father so I thought it would be weird, and I usually just referred to him as owner. But one night be were talking and he said he secretly liked being called daddy, so I tried it a few times and I slowly started using it more, and now I love it. I definitely think it has to do with it being a word we associate with a being cared for, and authority (that was mentioned in another comment). It also might be the fact that it's taboo that turns some people on?
