I’ve heard a lot of bad stories about the implant but my mom insists that I go with it because t lasts for years and we pay once not monthly

Check out the website bedsider.org - they have a ton of great information about all the different types of birth control and not just the horror stories you find on glow- remember people are much more likely to discuss something negative/bad stories that didn’t work for them than people posting “yeah I got an IUD and it works great” just like people are more likely to leave negative product reviews than positive on amazon/yelp

There are lots of horror stories and stigma about IUD/implants but they are RARE! Make sure your provider has had lots of experience putting them in and you should be fine and if it doesn’t work and you don’t like it, it can be easily removed! 
Birth control pills are only as good as the person taking them because skipping or taking at irregular times or taking antibiotics can make them very ineffective but that’s all because of user error
The Nexplanon is an arm implant that might be a good happy medium- it is good for 3 years I believe but goes in your arm so if you are scared of an IUD, those won’t be a factor.
The depo shot is also an option but can have weight gain as a side effect and since it’s a shot, if you don’t like the side effects, you just have to wait it out until it leaves your system so I’ve never been too much of a fan of that but it is an effective one as well
Do what will make you the most comfortable!
