Did having a baby help your relationship with your SO?

Please take my answer with a grain of salt. I picked that it made us closer, but we already had a really fantastic relationship. I don’t recommend having a baby trying to “repair” a relationship however.

definitely both. being first time parents is a roller coaster. we're on baby #2 now and we have some experience now but it was a learning experience at first. it definitely brings you closer, but also can push you apart at times.

I was a bandaid baby (a baby to help save the relationship), and my parents divorced before I turned two. My husband and I had a wonderful relationship before our baby, and still do now (our baby is now 2).

Don’t ever have a baby thinking it’ll help your relationship. My fiancée and I used to be incredibly happy together, no arguments, nothing. Then we decided to have a baby. We were both scared first time parents. The arguments and fights started after that. Our son is now two and we’ve been going through constant rough patches. We’ve broken up a few times too. Having a child definitely put a strain in our relationship. We love being parents, and watching our baby grow together is amazing but it’s so hard. We can’t get along anymore, all we do is argue and I really miss the way we used to be. Wait until you get married and then have children. We’ve been engaged for three years and honestly I don’t even know if we will end up getting married one day with the way things have changed. I love my son to death, and would give my life for him, but being a parent is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do and it made my relationship with his daddy awful. Just wait.

I think having a baby with someone you love will always bring you closer. now I absolutely do not believe a baby will fix an already bad relationship but will only make that relationship worse. however if you are married or in a committed relationship that is already good absolutely sharing a child with that person will bring you closer

I say it made us closer because at the time I conceived we weren’t together.. our son just made us realise what’s important.. he just naturally brought us back together and now we are in a better place than ever. I too don’t think just having a baby to repair a relationship would work

Please don’t ever have a baby just to fix a relationship 😔 that’s not fair to the baby and that’s not how it works either. My husband and I have a fantastic marriage so we decided we wanted to add a baby to our already loving home. Now, we continue to have an amazing marriage but on a much deeper level. If our marriage was broken in any way prior to having our daughter, we never would have had her. We would have fixed our marriage first and foremost. Having a baby can put a huge strain on marriage so if your marriage already sucks, a baby isn’t going to fix that. It’ll make it worse.

My parents would never admit it, but I was a bandaid baby. DO NOT HAVE KIDS to improve your relationship. NO. Awful. It was emotional neglect, and I got to see so much fighting. It’s one of the reasons I waited 3 years into marriage, dated 3, before trying to get pregnant. I wanted to make sure we had kids, because we were happy and secure. We communicate well and read each other well. I don’t know if this baby will make things worse, but I do know we have the relationship skills in place to problem solve. If you are even thinking, “maybe a baby will make us closer,” stop TTC and look at relationship counseling or other method to make you stronger as a couple. A baby deserves two strong parents ready to face big challenges.

having a baby won't make your relationship better it could make it worse if it's already bad pregnancy causes an imbalance emotionally and it's a financial burden that can cause you too argue if your considering having a baby make sure you in a good place with your partner emotionally and financially other wise the baby suffers you know what I mean do it because of love bit to try n fix things not saying that's what the situation is
