It’s almost 3/21!!! What are your plans?

It’s almost World Down Syndrome Day!!! How do you plan to celebrate?
We are going to a picnic with our fellow Down Syndrome Connection family members. I am so excited to meet more family’s!

I’m a teacher as well but I’m on maternity leave. I have plan to have my sub give a little presentation on it that day

I’m a teacher, so I take a few minutes of each class to educate my students about Down syndrome. Last year we talked about what Ds is and how it specifically influences my son’s life. We also did a marshmallow speaking activity to help students get an idea of how hard it can be to speak when someone has weaker muscles in their mouth. One of my favorite things to do is have my school participate in the “rock your socks” activity. Last year about 1/5 of our school and closer to 1/2 of my own students wore fun, silly, or mismatched socks on 3/21. 
Outside of school I will participate in a relay/marathon/fun run the Sunday before. The Relay and Run for 21 is held near St. Louis, and last year was the first year my son and I walked in the fun run. The two years before that my family and I volunteered since Will wasn’t walking very well. I’m really excited to participate again this year, and hopefully Will will have a blast again.
