Which house would you buy?
New construction: no charm, similar to all houses around it, but no issues to worry about because it's new 
Historic home: completely renovated so there are a lot of new things (including kitchen and baths and some structural), tons of charm and character, but veryy old

I would love the historic home but ONLY after having the water heater, gas lines (if any), foundation, plumbing, and electrical all checked since those can be MAJOR repairs (and cost thousands of dollars) that are common with older housing.

We went with new instead of old and I'm so glad we did. Our walls are well insulated so our central air bill is LOW compared to some of our friend's bills, we have only had one scare concerning our septic tank, we've had 2 mice in our basement in the 5 years we've been here (we're surrounded by woods so mice are the least of our worries 😱), no water problems, etc. We've saved ourselves a ton of headaches and money by going with new construction.

Since when do new homes have no charm?! 😂  we’d absolutely choose a new home over an older one. We love the newer neighborhoods.

I love both ! But to me it depends on these factors which has more space which as more usable space.. space that we can grow into.. not just because of charm but to me i look at more whats better for me and my family with living .. which would have more parking spaces as well. And of course pricing .. i know historical can hold its value but it can also be the same with new construction specially if its the 1st “phase” and you know there will be a second phase to it..

Doesn't matter to me, I'm more into amenities; my house is about 50 years old, but I fell in love with it because it has 2.5 baths, 4 bedrooms, a living room, family room, and dining room, and a big backyard.  Everything I needed for my fiancé, 3 kids, and me, to have room.  Although the day we closed, I found out I was pregnant, so now two of the kids are going to back to sharing a room.  Whoopsies! 😂

I grew up in a historic home (built in 1840s). Even with remodeling, there was ALWAYS something breaking and it was always something major. From plumbing to foundation, to you name it. While I love the idea of them, I personally would not choose one based on my childhood experience.
