Thoughts on the name Tallulah?

My SO and I are planning on naming our first baby girl Tallulah Anne (Tuh-loo-luh) and call her LuLu when she’s little. We’ve had this name picked out since before I was pregnant. We wanted something feminine and earthy yet slightly unique for her name. I’m now 31 weeks pregnant, and 99% of people that I’ve talked to love the name, but my mother in law hates it. She told us yesterday that she won’t call her by her name, and that LuLu is a “fat girl’s name”. She also told us that she would get teased a lot because of her name. I’m so conflicted because we love the name Tallulah, but I don’t want her to hate her name😔 I need some advice.

It’s not her baby. Its Not Her Baby. ITS NOT HER BABY. She had her children that she got to name it’s your turn. If she doesn’t want to call the baby by her name then she doesn’t see the baby, simple as that. It probably won’t come to that but she needs to be put in her place.

How does a name “sound fat” I mean really? 😂😂😂 your mil is a freaking nut case. Name your baby whatever the hell you want. If she doesn’t want to call her by her name then tell her she doesn’t need to be around her. I’d also set some boundaries now with her and let her know that if she ever tries to “fat shame” your child for any reasons she will be cut off completely, no questions asked. She sounds like a horrible, narcissistic woman.

I personally don’t love the name, but that’s because I prefer the traditional/classic names. Your MILs reasoning and refusal to call her by her name is absolutely ridiculous. Your daughter will not get made fun of by other kids and unique names, especially because unique names are very popular these days. By not calling your child by her name because she hates it, your MiL is the one bullying your kid.

I think it's adorable, and it's your baby. I would simply let your mother in law know that if she can't respect the name you choose for YOUR child then she doesn't need to see your child. But I'm a bitch like that. However, the name does make me think of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, but it's my ABSOLUTE favorite movie.

It's not a word I ever like to use, but your mil's insensitive and judgemental nature brings the C-word to mind. I don't even understand how a name can sound "fat." That being said, you'll never please everyone. While most everyone I've told my name choice really liked it, my brother told me my son's name was stupid. I just told him that when he has a child, he can name it what he wants, but this one's mine, and he'll get over it. But he will call my son by his name, whether he likes it or not, or he won't be around him. My child doesn't need that level of pettiness in his life. 🤷 As a side note, I don't think Tallulah is weird at all. I think it's really cute. Ignore the haters and go with your heart, mama!
