Will a doctor or nurse prescribe a blood test to identify gender? I know it’ll be determined with the NIPT testing but I want to know sooner!

I wonder why it’s so expensive now. I had genetic testing done with my son and it definitely was not covered, but I don’t even remember thinking much about the cost. My doctor doesn’t offer just the  NIPT test. I would like to know and check for downs and other chromosomal disorders as well. Just for peace of mind and to be prepared. It’s ridiculous that we should have to pay so much.

Insurance does not cover any testing. My doctor doesn’t provide any other testing other than one type. Really frustrated and I don’t want to pay $5000 to know the gender early. 😫Anyone have any luck with the online things like sneak peak?

I could be wrong but I don’t think they do the blood test for gender unless it’s necessary because of your age or family medical background. With my last pregnancy I had genetic testing done to ensure there was no downs and that was at 11 weeks. A blood test was not an option and I’ve already emailed my ob about that for this pregnancy and she said that’s something that most insurance companies don’t cover and that’s something I would have to cover and it’s very pricy. I will just wait until the anatomy scan to find out like last time.

I️ asked my doc this today- he said they do a routine blood test for downs markers and if you have greater than 1 in 365 they do a second more comprehensive test that would include the gender. He said if they don’t have the first test to indicate the necessity of the second, most insurance companies won’t pay for it and he said it would prob run me over $700! I’ll try the sneak peek home test or wait for the anatomy scan!

Sorry I hit yes too soon. I thought you were asking if you could request the NIPT for gender testing. I’m getting my NIPT at 12 weeks earliest you can do that is 10 weeks
