Cloth diapers at Hospital??

Hi all! We are due in June with a little boy and we are planning on cloth diapering. We are having a hospital birth. I’ve researched, watched YouTube videos and even taken a class. When I asked my doctor about it he looked at me like I had ten heads. He said he’s NEVER seen anyone cloth diaper at the hospital but he wasn’t against it. I really have my heart set on cloth diapers from day one.  So My question is, did you start with cloth diapers right away at the hospital or did you just wait till you got home?

most reasonable advice I heard is waiting to cloth diaper until the baby is done passing all of the meconium. that will happen by day 5-ish, well by 10 for sure. Thing is that stuff is REALLY hard to wash off, you may end up throwing inserts away because you just can't and most likely will have them at least permanently stained.

my mom makes cloth diapers and hers dont always fit newborns. (they go from 8 to 30 lbs) butttt she also makes newborn diapers. i know alot of people dont use them rigt away simply because they wont fit and they dont want to buy another set.  i will be using newborn ones and will bring them to the birthing centre when i give birth!

We waited until we got home. We brought a few and didn’t use them. We weren’t at the hospital for long. Just one night.

I started once I got home and felt settled. I was too afraid they would get accidentally lost at the hospital if a nurse changed her or something. It’s just easier not to have to bring more stuff with you. 
Our girl was also hospitalized for dehydration 6 days after birth and it was much easier to tell if she had a wet diaper with the disposable because of the color change. Once she was back to health we started our cloth. We now do 1 disposable at night and disposable if we are planning a trip or are leaving the house for a the day. I used to carry my wet bag and such but her stool is so stinky now that she eats regular food that I would hate to carry around a smelly cloth diaper all day.

Thank you everyone for your input!! This is not our first baby, but our youngest is 13 and we have never cloth diapered before. It’s a whole new experience!

I’m gonna wait till about a week after baby is born to use cloth diapers, I have a pack of newborn only 20 diapers so if I need to buy another pack then I can but if not then cloth diapers here so come !!

I asked  the same thing and got the same look HaHa. I plan on bringing some AIOs to hospital with me. I want to avoid potential diaper rash from disposables as much as I can.  The hospital seemed fine with it as long as we were the ones planning to clean them (of course haha).   The one miswife remembered when she first started  there thay they provided cloth diapers, then it changed a year after she began.

I used naty disposables for two months then switched out to miosolo all in ones. to be honest he went through so much nappies as a newborn and after delivery I couldn't have kept up with washing if I'd tried.  unless I hired a cleaner.

We started at 2weeks with our last baby because we were new to cloth and I was intimidated more than anything at first. 27months later and now I'm obsessed. I'm due April 4th with our 3rd baby and this time we will be using cloth exclusively straight from birth. Our birthing center has a 24hour minimum, but depending on the time I have baby depends on if we have to stay two nights vs one. I plan to pack about 40 JUST in case. I highly doubt I will go through half of them, but I rather have extra and not need them.
