To paint or not to paint??

Question

I really love farmhouse style, and want to paint our cabinets white. But my husband is on the fence because we have only been in out house about 3 years and it was brand new when we moved in. He thinks we should leave them as is just case we decide to move in the future (which I'm not planning on), because it will "depreciate the value". We would also redo the backsplash (probably subway tile) if we paint the cabinets. I need opinions!!

the cabinets look like they are in good shape id keep them as is. i just repainted my cabinets white and did farmhouse its a ton of work to get those things painted well

I am obsessed with farmhouse decor! You can definitely do that style with dark cabinets, just change the back splash to something more like and airy. Pinterest It girl, you can find anything and everything for what you’re looking for.

White wouldn’t look good. Maybe a distressed grey if going that light. Kitchens get so dirty and even a lighter color will show any blemish.

I have white cabinets and would much rather have yours- they need to constantly be cleaned (especially when your s.o is a welder)

I think it looks great how it is. It’s hard to say what would cause the home to “depreciate” in value years from now. It depends on what style is in at that time. The different types of cabinets and counter tops totally change value of a home. Not necessarily color though. Although it of course has to look good and flow together. 
I don’t think you should change the backsplash. The color palette goes together perfectly. If you were to change the backsplash to white subway tile, you’d have to change the color of the counter tops. I just don’t think it would go together well. You kind of have to go off the bits of color in the countertop. All the different brown and beige colors are what you’d stick to.

DON'T PAINT THE CABINETS!!! In order to get them to be completely even and to look well, you'll have to remove everything from the walls, sand and buff everything down, reseal the wood and then paint and re-attach the cabinets. And that's just the highlights. Go to Home Depot and ask someone in kitchens about cabinet refacing. It's quick (3-5 days) you'll have full access to your kitchen, they'll have tons of samples for you to choose from, they can even do a backsplash while doing it all and it's covered through warranties from the company. Plus EXTREMELY budget friendly. -Home Depot associate who managed the installs, and has seen/heard too many cabinet horror stories.

My sister and I both have farmhouse styled homes. Our kitchen are also dark wood cabinets like yours but we both have grey granite tops. I don’t have a back splash but my sister just put in a pretty damask back splash. We decided to decorate our kitchens versus changing how they completely look. Reason being is that styles change over the years, 10 years from now farmhouse could be out and we don’t wanna have to completely reface a kitchen due to paint.

Honestly if you're not going to move then make the house into a place you would want to be and call yours.
