What ACTUALLY causes prenatal depression???

My mum told me she developed it when she was pregnant and gave birth to me but she never explained what caused it. I’m 16 (nearly 17) and I want to know what caused it. She wont talk about it and when I ask she just cries so I don’t bother. Does anyone know the cause???

Nothing in particular CAUSES it. It can be many factors. Not enough support, feeling like your body is not your own, the hormones, fear, or nothing.. sometimes it just happens.

During and after pregnancy your body’s hormones are going crazy. After the baby is born, your emotions are at an all time high and then you have this baby to take care of and it can be very stressful. When it comes time for you to be pregnant, share your concerns with your doctor so that they can monitor you closely. My mom suffers from depression so I was worried about it as well. My doctor had me see a psychologist that specializes in pregnancy and she was able to put my mind at ease and tell me that I was at a low risk. And I also have someone to call if, after the baby is born, I struggle with postpartum depression.

From what I gained from my developmental psychology class about prenatal depression is that it happens to someone who just had a baby. They usually feel extremely stressed with the large amount of responsibilities that the newborn requires, there’s more stress due to lack of sleep, frustration to constant crying and waking up in the middle of the night, and the view of your body image.

What ACTUALLY causes prenatal depression???
