Cloth Diapers?

Question

FTM here 🙋🏻‍♀️ and I’m really interested in cloth diapering, maybe just for when we are home and using disposables when we go out. Anyone familiar with cloth diapers?
 
-best brand?
-how do you clean the diapers? 
-Tips/Tricks?

there is a cloth diaper q&a; group. I found it when I decided to cloth diaper. Haven't started since I'm due in April but I am doing Alva pockets, Momma Kola pockets and a few Grovia all in ones. A friend also gave me a few Bumgenius pockets as well. I am just doing it while at home also.

I love the grovia hybrid diapers. All I have to do is remove the liner and put a new one in when my son is done.

There is a great fb group Fluff Love & CD Science that will help set you up with a proper wash routine specific to your washer. They also have a website with a detergent and washing machine index if you want to put one together yourself, fluffloveuniversity.com. As far as brands go, there really is no best brand. It's recommend a that you try several brands and styles though to figure out what best works for you and your baby.

I use a mixture of Alva, Nora's Nursery, and Mama Koala. I use Kawaii Good Night Heavy Wetters at night. I like all my diapers, but prefer the Mama Koala diapers. They aren't as bulky as the Alva's, but they are more expensive. You just clean them in the washing machine. I use two cycles, washing first on cold with no detergent and again on hot with detergent. A lot of people hang dry because it's better for the diapers, but I use a dryer with no issues. As for poop, I just wear gloves, dump the poop, and swish the diapers around in the toilet bowl. You can also use a diaper sprayer if you find that more convenient. I still use cloth in public and carry a small wetbag for soiled diapers. I also use cloth wipes. I would never go back to disposables.

I honestly have a mixed stash of pockets and fitted with covers. I buy whatever I can find secondhand for a good price. I have found that some hold more then others (pockets don’t last as long as fitteds they are great to keep bums slim while out). Also I use liners so I just have to pick up the edges of it and off comes the poop. No need for a sprayer. As for brands for fitteds i have mother ease, Sandy’s, a lovely start, jelly bear boutique and rain shine design, nuggles, blueberry...just to name some. I also have cloth wipes which I use just water when I need to use them. I also just have an open bin where I put the dirty diapers and wash every two days. I only use wet bags when out.

These are the fitted ones and you use them with a cover. Its nice you can use the same cover all day and just change out the inside.
