What age did you first start to have depression?

I’m 15 and first got depression when I was 13 years old, I’m just wondering at what age other people had it, to see if it was normal. Any advice is also appreciated.

I first became depressed at 12. The hormones you have in your teenage years definitely don't help. I'm 24 and still have periods of depression..sometimes for a week, sometimes a month. But a little light always comes eventually that reminds me that life, although hard and tragic, is beautiful and worth living. I don't have any real advice other than to never forget that life will always have both horrible and amazing moments, and you just gotta get through the hard times in order to experience the amazing, and in the amazing moments you'll realize it was worth it. Many of those amazing moments come to me when I'm in nature.

I was 28 when I started with depression. Then Anxiety to top it off. I started feeling down and worry about anything. Not interested on things I used to enjoy in life. It got worse in a week until I went to look for help. I went to see a psychologist to help me out how to control and cope with it. He prescribed me Escitalopram for depression and anxiety. These medication brought my life back together I don't feel depression and anxiety no more.

never knew at the time but I was 9 when I got depressed and it was when my mother died and life changed massively. 15 years later and I think I have a handle on it but the anxiety is the worst. I know I’ll never be the same as other people and use various coping methods to keep an eye on it. Try not to worry too much about what’s normal or not. We’re all different. Stay strong!

Ives's between the ages of 6-8, but I didn't get actually diagnosed until I was 17 because I didn't want my family to hate me. But even now at 20, I can get just as bad as I would in my childhood years, but I've recently come to a point where I can manage the bursts better without medication.

I was like 9 or 10 I think... but I thought that everyone was feeling this way... I got suicidal at 11 and it didn't really get better. But I didn't talk to anyone because I thought it was kind of normal... I started self harming and Isolating myself from everyone. I tried to kill myself and had to go in hospitals multiple times... than I started to go on diets and I got really skinny... now I'm 16 and it is really getting better. One year ago I starred to talk to a therapist and I am trying to tell my story to support people and trying to show them what depress really means... because it is so much more than sadness or suicidal thoughts... stay strong ❤

It’s hard to say because I think I had it before I even knew what depression was... I don’t think I fully could understand that what I was feeling was depression until high school, but I had it before than

I think it was always there but my parents and peers saw it as me being a stubborn teenager with first world issues. It was a problem until I wanted to attempt suicide and talked to my dad. My junior year of HS he took me to my doctor and explained what it was. I’ve been on medications since and still haven’t found a real solution

honestly I can't think of a time when  I didn't have it. It got really severe (suicidal thoughts, self harm) at around 11 though.
